First Match: Portugal vs. Spain

July 7, 03:00 (Beijing Time) · AT&T Stadium, Arlington
This is the Iberian Derby, one of the most anticipated Round of 16 matches in this World Cup.

Reasons Spain has the advantage:
They have not conceded a single goal in their four matches so far, goalkeeper Unai Simón has broken the World Cup consecutive clean sheet record, and the defense is watertight.
In the Round of 16, they easily beat Austria 3-0, showing much better form than Portugal (who narrowly beat Croatia 2-1 with a stoppage-time winner).
Rodri and Pedri's midfield duo is the best in this tournament, with possession dominance over Portugal.
Spain has a perfect head-to-head record in World Cup history (1-0 in 2010, 3-3 in 2018), and Portugal has never beaten Spain in a World Cup proper match.

Portugal's variables:
In the 2025 UEFA Nations League final, Portugal beat Spain on penalties to win the title, using a tactical approach of "actively ceding possession, sitting deep, and counter-attacking," which worked.
The 41-year-old Ronaldo scored his first World Cup knockout-stage goal in the Round of 16, with immense mental strength.
The team has no injuries, and Gonçalo Ramos is in great form, ready to come off the bench and change the game.

Prediction: Spain 2-1 Portugal (in regular time). Spain is in better overall form, but if Portugal can successfully drag the match into a stalemate, it could go to extra time or even penalties.

Second Match: USA vs. Belgium
July 7, 08:00 (Beijing Time) · Seattle

Reasons USA has the advantage:
Home-field advantage as hosts, scoring 8 goals in three group-stage matches with consistent attacking firepower.
In the Round of 16, they kept a clean sheet against Bosnia 2-0 (even after starter forward Balogun was sent off). Balogun is available for 90 minutes this match to finish the job.
They have nearly a full day more rest than Belgium, giving them ample energy reserves.
Their high-press style of play precisely exploits Belgium's weakness in slow turning and aging players.

Belgium's concerns:
The golden generation (De Bruyne, Lukaku, Courtois) is aging; they struggled past Senegal 3-2 in 120 minutes in the Round of 16.
They had consecutive draws against Egypt and Iran in the first two group matches, showing inconsistent form.
There was reported infighting in the Round of 16, casting doubt on team chemistry.
They still have superior squad depth and experience, and De Bruyne's creativity remains an X-factor.

Prediction: USA 2-1 Belgium (in regular time). The USA, with home crowd energy, fitness advantage, and targeted pressing, can likely settle the match in regular time. However, if Belgium can control the tempo and turn it into a positional battle through De Bruyne's playmaking, their experience edge will gradually come into play.
