BlockBeats news, July 6, according to CNBC, over the past 72 hours, multiple major developments have emerged in the Russia-Ukraine situation. U.S. President Trump spoke by phone separately with Russian President Putin and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy. Ukrainian drones attacked Russia’s St. Petersburg oil depot and port facilities. Russia then launched a second large-scale airstrike on Kyiv within a week, prompting the market to once again focus on geopolitical issues, energy security, and European defense risks.

Zelenskyy said he had discussed the frontline situation with Trump and agreed to continue consultations at the upcoming NATO summit, adding, “There is a real opportunity to end this war, and America’s resolve is crucial.”

The Kremlin said Trump and Putin held a phone call lasting about 90 minutes, during which both sides discussed ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the outlook for future U.S.-Russia cooperation. Kremlin aide Ushakov said the call was “pragmatic and constructive,” and that Trump emphasized that the conflict should be ended as soon as possible to unlock the potential for cooperation between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Ukraine has recently continued to step up its attacks on Russia’s energy facilities and military targets. According to Ukraine, it attacked a large oil terminal in St. Petersburg and the Kronstadt naval base, the garrison location of the Baltic Fleet, causing fires at the relevant facilities. In response, Russia launched a large-scale missile and drone attack on Kyiv in the early hours of Monday local time, killing at least 11 people and severely damaging multiple residential buildings.

The U.S. think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW) believes Russia is trying to convey to the West a narrative that it still holds the initiative on the battlefield, while the Trump administration has recently more publicly referred to Ukraine’s progress in long-range strikes on Russia’s military and energy facilities, indicating that the information war surrounding the battlefield situation is still ongoing.
