ZachXBT's public investigation standards: only accepts cases with individual losses exceeding $250k, rejects meme coin cases

On-chain detective ZachXBT announced 5 case acceptance thresholds: losses must exceed $250,000, excluding Meme tokens and prediction markets, so that investigative resources are focused on higher-reward cases.
(Backgrounder: How did ZachXBT, the strongest detective in the crypto space, crack a $243 million crypto theft case?)
(Additional background: ZachXBT strikes again at $LAB—95% internal control, with the founder dumping OTC at a 20% discount (2折) to KOLs for protection.)

On-chain detective ZachXBT posted on X on July 6, formally announcing 5 threshold conditions for accepting cases. Unless he meets all conditions, he will not accept or respond to investigation requests.

Five Acceptance Criteria

The standards ZachXBT listed are quite clear, covering the nature of the case, the loss amount, and the investigation scope:

  • Recent cases: The event cannot be too long ago
  • Minimum loss: A single victim’s loss must exceed $250,000 (about NT$8 million)
  • Jurisdiction: Must be in a jurisdiction where his work is favorable
  • Supported chains: Must occur on the blockchain(s) he supports for investigation
  • Excluded types: Does not involve Meme tokens or prediction markets

Why Start at $250,000

Since ZachXBT rose to fame in 2024, he has accumulated several well-known cases. By tracking on-chain transactions, he has uncovered multiple crypto theft cases, including:

  • Helping the U.S. government recover funds (even though there is no official reward, community airdrops $ZACHXBT earned him over $4 million)
  • Uncovering the method behind a $243 million crypto theft case
  • Revealing LAB tokens’ 95% internal control, with the founder dumping OTC at a 20% discount (2折) to KOLs for protection

As the number of cases surged, ZachXBT’s publicly stated investigation acceptance thresholds were also a reasonable filter—concentrating resources on cases with more complete evidence chains and higher investigation returns.

Significance for Average Investors

The $250,000 threshold means that if small investors find on-chain anomalies, they can first check the transaction records themselves using browsers such as Etherscan and SolanaScan, or refer to ZachXBT’s past investigation methodology, before deciding whether to submit a request. Excluding Meme tokens and prediction markets also reflects that he is not interested in “low signal-to-noise” areas—these markets are inherently highly volatile, and the investigation cost does not justify the returns on a proportional basis.
