The Indonesian military confirmed on the 3rd that an American pilot was killed by local armed militants on the 2nd in the Papua region of eastern Indonesia, and the small aircraft he was flying was also set on fire.

According to local media reports, the attack took place in a village in Yahukimo Regency, Highland Papua Province. The aircraft involved belonged to an Indonesian airline.

On the same day, after the aircraft piloted by the American pilot and carrying 7 passengers landed, it went missing, and it was later attacked. The pilot’s body has now been found, and the 7 passengers on board have been safely taken care of.

The Indonesian military said the attack was carried out by local armed separatist groups. The military is currently doing everything it can to track down the suspects and has strengthened security measures in the surrounding areas.

A local armed organization has claimed responsibility for the attack. The group said its members killed the American pilot and burned the aircraft, claiming that the plane often transports Indonesian military personnel. The group also warned that if the Indonesian government continues to allow civilian aircraft to enter parts of Papua under its control, it will launch more attacks. (Xinhua)
