Merz: Germany’s reform plan may drive GDP growth to surpass 1% in 2027

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that the reform plan recently announced by the ruling coalition is expected to lift Germany’s GDP growth rate to over 1% in 2027. Merz said, “I want to break the sluggish state of our economy. We need to boost the potential growth rate again. I hope that next year’s GDP growth rate will have the ‘1’ before the decimal point show up again.” This April, the German government cut this year’s GDP growth forecast in half to 0.5% and lowered next year’s growth forecast to 0.9%.
