Sharp decline in ships on the Oman shipping lane in the Strait of Hormuz as Iran continues to strengthen waterway control.

According to institutional reports, the number of vessels navigating the Omani coastal route via the Strait of Hormuz fell sharply on Sunday. The day before, multiple vessels traveling out of the strait along this route suddenly made abrupt, large U-turns, underscoring Iran’s continued efforts to strengthen control over this strategic waterway. A refined product tanker that turned back and returned on Saturday appears to be attempting passage again, and has now sailed past the northernmost tip of Oman’s Musandam Peninsula. Earlier, another refined product tanker also traveled along the same route and publicly broadcast its sailing intentions, and is now transmitting berth-position information in the Gulf of Oman. Some other vessels have chosen to “sail dark” to cross the strait.
