Meta Begins Developing Cloud AI Service, Ready to Challenge AWS and Google Cloud
Meta is reportedly developing a cloud infrastructure business that will offer computing capacity for artificial intelligence (AI) to external customers. According to Bloomberg, this move will put Meta in direct competition with the world's largest cloud service providers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.
The new service will allow companies to rent Meta's AI computing power to train and run artificial intelligence models. So far, Meta's AI infrastructure has been mostly used to support internal products such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and the development of the Llama AI model.
Demand for AI computing continues to rise along with the rapid adoption of generative AI models, causing the need for GPUs and high-capacity data centers to surge.
In recent years, Meta has made significant investments to build AI infrastructure, including purchasing AI chips and building new data centers. This infrastructure is expected to be used not only for internal needs but also as a commercial service for other companies.
