CoinJie News: French police arrested a mother and her son on June 25 in Cavalaire-sur-Mer, suspected of stealing approximately $1.8 million worth of crypto assets in a fake villa sale. The two are accused of masterminding a complex “rip-off deal,” targeting a couple from Ramatuelle who listed their villa for sale in spring 2025 with a value of about €10 million (approximately $12 million). The suspects claimed to be intermediaries for a wealthy Italian buyer and invited the sellers to negotiate in Milan, saying they were willing to pay more than the asking price, but requiring the sellers to provide proof of crypto assets worth €1.5 million (approximately $1.8 million). Investigators believe the suspects obtained the victims’ wallet information by distracting them and using hidden cameras, and then transferred the crypto assets immediately after obtaining the account details and private keys. The suspects have been placed under judicial supervision and are scheduled to appear before the Draguignan Criminal Court on September 1, facing charges including organized fraud.

The trial won't start until September... Such judicial efficiency... Can the money still be recovered?

What's this new term "tearing trade"? It feels like this case could end up in textbooks.

This operation is too ridiculous, a mother-son duo conspired to commit fraud and even hid cameras to steal private keys, even movies wouldn't dare to film such a plot.

The Milan negotiations, excessive bidding, and crypto verification—schemes layered on top of schemes; the elderly couple is caught off guard and stands no chance.

$1.8 million just gone like that. Selling a villa and still running into a setup like this—people outside the crypto circle need to watch out too.
