CoinWorld News: According to *Nice Morning News*, police in France’s Var department have cracked a cryptocurrency fraud case with an involved amount of 1.5 million euros, arresting a mother and son duo. The two carried out a “rip deal” scam, luring a local couple to Milan and demanding that the other party pay a 1.5 million euro transaction guarantee fee in cryptocurrency. The suspects used hidden cameras to steal the victims’ crypto account information and private keys, then transferred all of the victims’ crypto assets. Police arrested the mother and son in Cavalaire and seized real estate valued at 1.9 million euros belonging to the suspects. The two suspects will appear in court on September 1 and face multiple criminal charges related to organized gang fraud.

1.5 million euros could be transferred at will; awareness of private key management still has a long way to go.

This rip deal is so old-school, and yet people still fall for it.
