According to the Nice Morning News, after a year-long investigation, police in the Var department of France arrested a mother and son suspected of carrying out a "Rip Deal" (fake sale) scam. The fraud ring, under the pretext of acting as agents for wealthy businessmen to purchase villas, lured a wealthy couple from Ramatuelle to Milan and demanded that they pay a "guarantee for sales commission" of 1.5 million euros in cryptocurrency. The scammers used hidden cameras to steal the victims' account information and private keys, then quickly drained the accounts. Police arrested the suspects in Cavalaire-sur-Mer and seized their property valued at 1.9 million euros. The suspects, who have previous fraud convictions, will appear in court on September 1, facing charges including organized gang fraud.
