According to The Star, the South Klang District Police in Malaysia carried out a raid on a warehouse in the Port Klang Free Zone at around 9:30 AM on July 3, uncovering a case suspected of theft of electricity used for cryptocurrency mining. The police said that during the operation, a local man and a foreign national were arrested; their ages were 20 and 31, respectively, and the equipment used on site for cryptocurrency mining was also seized. The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code and Section 37(1) of the Electricity Supply Act 1990; the former carries a maximum penalty of 5 years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both, while the latter carries a maximum penalty of 5 years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to 100,000 Malaysian ringgit, or both. The police have obtained a remand order, and the two suspects will be remanded for 4 days starting from July 4 until July 7 to assist in further investigations.
