Micron’s $9 billion expansion of its chip factory in western Japan is expected to begin production and shipping around the summer of 2028.

BlockBeats News, July 4 — Micron Technology has officially begun the expansion of its factory in western Japan, with a total project investment of 1.5 trillion yen to produce advanced memory chips. This expansion is part of its global production expansion plan, aiming to meet the demands of the artificial intelligence industry. The Japanese government will provide up to 500 billion yen in subsidies to share construction costs. The factory expansion will help Micron improve the energy efficiency and data transmission efficiency of chips needed for AI services and autonomous vehicles. The expanded production lines are expected to begin shipping around the summer of 2028.
