Trump Pardons 11 People; SBF Is Not on the List — Today’s Celebration Statement Becomes the Focus
Mars Finance News: On July 4, U.S. President Trump signed a pardon order one day before Independence Day (local time on July 3), pardoning 11 people in total, including several individuals convicted for violating the Clean Air Act. Trump described them as victims of “persecution by the Biden administration,” saying they were jailed or faced imprisonment for repairing their own cars, adding, “I’m letting them all go free right now.”
Notably, the most closely watched potential pardon target in the crypto space, FTX founder SBF, has not yet appeared on the list of pardons released. Today (the 4th) happens to coincide with the U.S. 250th anniversary celebrations. Trump is scheduled to attend events in multiple locations. The White House previously discussed issuing a mass pardon for 250 people during the U.S. 250th anniversary celebrations as part of the festivities. However, these plans are still under consideration and have not been officially announced. The market is closely watching Trump’s comments today.
Under the Trump administration, the contest over pardons has been significantly upgraded. The president himself has exercised unprecedented personal control over the pardon process, frequently using the power of pardon to back allies and advance his own political demands. Pardon matters are handled by a small team comprising White House Special Counsel David Warrington, Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, and U.S. pardon attorney Ed Martin. Most cases go through an initial review coordinated by Warrington and Martin along with the Department of Justice; the shortlisted candidates are submitted to Wiles for review, and then Warrington and Wiles present the final picks to Trump for his decision.
