14 times the difference in value——837 million euros vs 60 million euros, but does it matter?
Brothers, look at this number——Argentina's total squad value is 837 million euros, while Cape Verde's is about 60 million euros. That's nearly a 14 times difference.
One Messi on Argentina (even though he's 38 and his value has dropped, he's still a superstar) might be worth more than half of Cape Verde's team. Lautaro, Alvarez, Enzo, Mac Allister——pick any one of them, and their value alone is several times that of the entire Cape Verde squad.
But brothers, does squad value really matter in knockout matches?
In the group stage, Cape Verde drew 0-0 with Spain (worth over a billion euros) and 0-0 with Uruguay (worth several hundred million euros). The value gap didn't crush them; instead, it made them fight even harder. Money can buy good players, but it can't buy fighting spirit, it can't buy resilience, and it can't buy a heart that wants to win. Cape Verde made it to the knockout stage with a squad worth 60 million euros——they've already proven that value is just a number; games are played with feet.
Cape Verde's goalkeeper Vozinha said something before the match: "We've prepared for 10 years, just to let the world see us." That statement carries a lot of weight. They're not here to make up the numbers; they're here to fight.
Argentina's head coach Scaloni also admitted that he highly values Cape Verde's defensive organization and physical foundation. Even the opposing coach says so, which shows that Cape Verde is really not here to be cannon fodder.
