NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang's signature black leather jacket (from the brand Tom Ford), personally worn and autographed by him, will go under the hammer at Sotheby's on July 17, with all proceeds donated to charity. As we know, the black leather jacket is a visual symbol that Huang has deliberately cultivated over the years.

He always wears it to NVIDIA's developer conferences and product launches. When he stands on stage to talk about chip architecture and computing power blueprints, this jacket appears in the frame almost as often as the chips themselves. Over time, it becomes more memorable than any slide in identifying the person on stage.

It's one thing to wear it in temperate regions like the United States, but every time he travels overseas—for example, visiting night markets in Taiwan's humid and hot weather—we still see him showing up in the same black leather jacket. You have to admire his perseverance in sticking with the leather jacket.

Who is paying for the symbolism?

Sotheby's estimated valuation is between $40,000 and $60,000. PSA, a company specializing in grading sports collectibles, confirmed through photo comparison that this jacket matches the one Huang wore when he attended Hon Hai Tech Day on October 18, 2023. The signature is verified by the signature authentication agency JSA—both steps are indispensable, and missing either would prevent it from being auctioned.

The auction is organized by Long Journey, a venture capital fund that invests in early-stage founders. Bidding starts on July 7, and the jacket will also be displayed at Sotheby's New York until July 16.

Proceeds will be donated to the nonprofit organization The Edge Institute, a research organization with a collaborative lab nature. It brings together innovators in technology and science through pop-up residency events. The funds will be used to support scholarships, grants, and residency programs for next-generation founders and builders.
