Trump will not sign any bills until the SAVE America Act is signed

According to CNBC, President Trump said in an exclusive interview Thursday that he will not sign the housing bill, which had previously passed with bipartisan support in Congress, until the "Protect American Voter Eligibility Act" (SAVE America Act) is presented to him for signature.

Trump said: "I believe the Protect American Voter Eligibility Act is the most important bill we have right now, for years and years to come."

He also stated that the housing bill "has many provisions from Democrats that I don't even think are right," and reiterated, "I would rather not sign any bill until the SAVE America Act is signed."

The stalemate began on June 24, when Trump abruptly canceled the scheduled signing ceremony for the housing bill, which had previously passed with bipartisan support in Congress. The bill was originally intended to expand homeownership by increasing housing supply and lowering home-buying costs.

It is reported that the housing bill also includes a key provision banning the Federal Reserve from issuing a central bank digital currency (CBDC) for a period of four years, until 2030. With the bill stalled, this digital currency regulatory measure will also be delayed.

Trump subsequently tied the signing of the housing bill to Congress passing the SAVE America Act. The SAVE America Act requires voters to present a photo ID when voting in federal elections and to provide proof of citizenship when registering to vote.

Trump also advocated for adding provisions to the bill that would ban transgender individuals from participating in women's sports, prohibit gender-affirming surgeries for minors, and restrict mail-in voting.

However, these additional provisions were not included in the version previously passed by the House of Representatives and lack sufficient support in the Senate.

Earlier, House Speaker Mike Johnson had sent the housing bill to the White House. Under the legislative process, if Trump does not sign or veto the bill by July 9, it will automatically become law.
