Bitse Media reported via Cointelegraph that, in the first half of this year, the number of global crypto ATMs fell from 39,158 to 28,322. Within six months, 10,836 machines were decommissioned, a decline of 27.7%, with about 96% located in the United States.

The number of crypto ATMs in the US dropped from 30,617 to 20,237, a decline of 33.9%. As of the end of June, they still accounted for about 71.5% of the world’s active devices.

Experts interviewed by finbold said the decrease in numbers is not driven by a decline in demand, but because operators have scaled back infrastructure due to crypto market volatility and tighter regulatory requirements. One of the major US crypto ATM operators, Bitcoin Depot, announced bankruptcy in May, after previously experiencing a $3.6 million hacker attack.
