CoinWorld news: The U.S. Department of Justice has extradited 19-year-old cybercrime member Peter Stokes from Finland, who is suspected of participating in more than 100 cyber intrusions and obtaining over $100 million in cryptocurrency ransom. Peter Stokes appeared in federal court in Chicago on July 1, facing multiple charges including conspiracy, unauthorized intrusion into computer systems, and fraud. Prosecutors allege that in May 2025, he attacked a luxury jewelry retailer and demanded approximately $8 million in cryptocurrency ransom, causing the victim company losses of over $2 million due to business interruption and system repairs. This case is part of the FBI's Operation Riptide.
