It has been 3 years since the implementation of the Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles. Chen Meibao, Director of the Transport and Logistics Bureau, said on a social media platform that, over the past 3 years, the total number of vehicles entering and exiting via the Zhuhai Highway Port of the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge has exceeded 5.2 million. Starting from the 25th of this month, Guangdong vehicles heading south will add 5 more mainland cities under the plan, and the daily reservation quota for departure will also increase to 200 vehicles. Chen described these two measures as actively promoting the Greater Bay Area’s “one-hour living circle,” fostering deeper integration and exchanges among the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.

With this term of the Government entering its 5th year in office, Chen Meibao summarized the work from the past 4 years. She said that on the aspect of land transportation, from the “Barrier-Free Passage for All” initiative, to promoting autonomous driving on a regular basis, the heavy-rail and intelligent green mass transit systems, and actively strengthening cross-border railway connections with the Northern Metropolis—regardless of the size of the projects—their purpose is to make travel more convenient for citizens.

On aviation, the Hong Kong International Airport connects with around 220 flight destinations worldwide. The team continues to expand the service network, especially in Belt and Road regions, so as to help the country build the “Air Silk Road.” In line with the national goal of developing new quality productive forces, the Transport and Logistics Bureau will also continue to advance low-altitude economic planning. This year, it will publish a Low-Altitude Economy Action Outline, opening up a brand-new logistics and transportation industry for Hong Kong. The authorities are also promoting the upgrading and transformation of the Hong Kong port in the shipping sector. Anchored on Hong Kong’s position as a global shipping hub, they will accelerate the development of high value-added maritime services, and link traditional shipping with modern finance to inject new momentum into the local economy.
