AIMPACT News, May 21 (UTC+8), Google Senior Vice President James Manyika recently stated that AI will not destroy the job market in the short term, and he disagrees with radical predictions of "mass unemployment." Citing a McKinsey report he contributed to in 2017, he noted that automation will simultaneously lead to job reductions, the emergence of new jobs, and the redefinition of existing ones. He believes the current debate is about the proportion of these three scenarios, not whether they will happen. Manyika criticized the AI industry for amplifying public anxiety, saying such panic could undermine the value of the technology.
