USA 🆚 Bosnia and Herzegovina 🇧🇦
A battle between two teams that came out of the group, but their styles are completely opposite. The USA is young, athletic, and a pressing team. Bosnia is experienced, technical, and dependent on Dzeko. My prediction: USA 2-1 Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The USA’s biggest weapon is tempo. The trio of Pulisic, Weah, and Balogun runs for 90 minutes. Musah and McKennie add dynamism in midfield. Tyler Adams is a ball-winning machine as the defensive midfielder. Berhalter’s team suffocates opponents with a high press. They’ll also play like the home side, and the crowd support makes a serious difference. Their weakness is finishing. They create chances but waste a lot too.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is the opposite. They give the ball to the opponent and wait for Dzeko. Dzeko is 39 but still a king in the box. Pjanic creates danger from free kicks, Kolasinac’s overlapping runs are effective. The problem is this: if you shut down Dzeko, Bosnia has no Plan B. Their defense is slow and can fall apart after the 70th minute against the USA’s fast wingers. They also have very little squad depth.
Scenario: The game starts fast. In the 17th, Pulisic drives in from the left, cuts it back, Balogun makes it 1-0. Bosnia doesn’t drop out of the game. In the 41st, Pjanic takes a free kick, Dzeko heads it in for 1-1. In the second half, the USA pulls ahead physically. In the 73rd, Weah pushes up on the right, cuts it back on the ground, McKennie hits it first time for 2-1. In the last 10 minutes Bosnia throws everything forward, but the USA misses a third on the counter.
Could there be an upset? Yes, but only on one condition: Dzeko has his day and a free-kick goal comes from Pjanic. Then it locks at 1-1 and penalties come into play. Still, the USA’s energy and squad depth tip the scale. Upset potential: Medium
