The Bank for International Settlements has stated that current stablecoins, such as USDT and USDC, cannot be considered fully-fledged money. This is because they do not provide guaranteed exchange at par between different issuers and blockchains.



Regulators believe that such stablecoins are more like dollar ETFs, which, if the market rises, could increase dollarization and create risks for weaker currencies.
