ME News message: On May 21 (UTC+8), Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Baghaei said in a statement made in the evening of the 20th local time regarding the Iran-U.S. situation, the security of the Strait of Hormuz, and U.S. pressure on Iran. He emphasized that Iran will continue to advance negotiations under “strong distrust of the United States,” while firmly safeguarding national interests. Baghaei said that Iran is currently exchanging information with the United States through Pakistani intermediaries, and Tehran’s core demands include ending regional conflicts, unfreezing Iran’s overseas assets, and stopping “maritime hijackings” targeting Iranian shipping. He said that although U.S. actions over the past year and a half have left a negative record, Iran is still moving forward with the diplomatic process with “seriousness and goodwill,” but also maintains “strong and reasonable distrust” of the United States.
