CICC: The absolute leverage of Korean stocks has reached historical highs, but the ratio relative to market capitalization is not extreme.

ME News, on June 29 (UTC+8), CICC research believes that, overall, the current in-market leverage ratio for Korean stocks is around 2x~5x, and absolute leverage has reached a historical high; however, when compared both horizontally and vertically against market-cap ratios, it is not at an extreme level. Market sentiment and liquidity indicators are somewhat tight, but not significantly. Looking ahead, high leverage itself will amplify volatility and may even create liquidity pressure—for example, a decline of 16~36% could trigger margin calls. Recent forced-liquidation pressure has risen, but the medium- to long-term trend depends more on fundamentals. (Jin Shi) (Source: ODAILY)
