ME News reported that on April 24 (UTC+8), the UK National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) released its latest technical report, officially recognizing Passkeys as superior to traditional passwords and recommending them as the "preferred login method" for various digital services. The NCSC pointed out that Passkeys are based on encrypted keys stored on local devices, typically combined with biometric unlocking, and their security is "at least as strong as, and often stronger than" the strongest passwords combined with two-step verification. The NCSC stated that over the past year, industry issues regarding compatibility and implementation have significantly improved, with over half of active UK Google users now registered for Passkeys, and platforms like eBay and PayPal also having adopted them. Therefore, the agency no longer recommends continued use of passwords when a better alternative is available. (Source: PANews)
