Zelensky's latest long-range strikes on oil refineries are directly aimed at weakening Russian military logistics. At this stage of the war, energy facilities have become a key bargaining chip.
Zelensky said that Ukrainian forces attacked the Slavyansky oil refinery in the Krasnodar Krai, which is about 300 kilometers from the front line. Ukrainian forces also launched a strike on an oil refinery in Yaroslavl Oblast, which was targeted by Ukrainian forces in May this year. He said Ukrainian forces will continue their operations, “to weaken Russia’s ability to wage war.”
Zelensky also reposted videos showing the attacks on the two refineries. The footage shows the refineries with fires raging and thick smoke rolling in.
