Ethereum - 1... and Solana?
*in addition to the post above comparing Ethereum and Solana
According to Cryptogics, Ethereum ranks first in commits and development activity. Solana, however, is not in the Top 20 at all...
But the situation isn't that clear-cut. Solana's absence from some commit rankings doesn't mean there's no development in Solana. Most often, the reason is methodology: rankings count not the entire ecosystem but individual GitHub repositories or only "visible" activity. Solana's development is heavily fragmented across different organizations: Anza, Firedancer, Jito, Solana Foundation, individual dApp teams, etc.
If an aggregator doesn't collect all these repositories into one ecosystem, Solana looks weaker than it actually is.
In your analysis, it's important to understand the imperfection of such indicators, rankings, and metrics, which are often subjective and don't reflect the real situation. For the most accurate picture, you need to use multiple sources and conduct fairly labor-intensive research (compared to reading a post on X).
The following combination shows whether the ecosystem is actually being built: developers + core clients + dApps + users + fees + developer retention.
DeveloperReport - for an overall picture of developers: monthly devs, full-time devs, commits, repos, tenure.
DefiLlama → Chain - for TVL, fees, revenue, stablecoins, DEX volume, perps volume.
Token Terminal - for revenue, fees, active users, P/F, network economics.
Artemis / Dune - for on-chain activity: active addresses, transactions, TPS, stablecoin transfers, dApp usage.
