AIMPACT News, May 20 (UTC+8), Gartner issued a warning pointing out the phenomenon of "Agent Washing" in the supply chain planning technology market, where suppliers repackage traditional optimization algorithms, rule engines, or automated workflows as "AI agents" or "intelligent agents." Gartner believes that true AI agents should possess autonomy, goal orientation, environmental awareness, and continuous learning capabilities, while many tools labeled as "agents" still rely on preset rules and static models. Gartner advises companies to require suppliers to clearly explain the specific implementation of their "agent" functions, including autonomous learning, dynamic decision-making, and cross-system collaboration capabilities, and to pay attention to technical architecture transparency. Gartner predicts that by 2027, more than 60% of supply chain planning technology suppliers will face customer trust crises due to "Agent Washing," thereby driving industry standardization and genuine innovation.
