Altman asserts that the world will face a global computing power shortage, and OpenAI launches 1–3 year long-term computing power contracts with discounts.

Abstract generation in progress
AIMPACT news, May 20 (UTC+8). According to Beating monitoring, competition among large models is evolving into a direct scramble for underlying physical computing power. OpenAI has launched a “Computing Power Guarantee” service: as long as enterprises commit to 1 to 3 years of spending, they can lock in access to computing power and receive tiered token discounts based on the committed amount. CEO Sam Altman warned that as large models become increasingly powerful, global computing power will remain constrained in the long term. As the pressure of money mounts, this long-term contract is essentially a mutually beneficial arrangement: enterprises spend to lock in stable computing power for AI agents and production systems, while OpenAI receives the funds in advance and can plan and expand the next generation of infrastructure more reliably. There is a clear physical upper limit on the quota for this plan. Sam Altman explicitly said that once the currently allocated quota is sold out, sales will stop, and sufficient computing power must be reserved at the underlying level to prioritize the normal operation of core proprietary products such as ChatGPT and Codex.
