ME News Report, June 24 (UTC+8), according to Beating Monitoring. Reuters, citing four informed sources, reports that Qualcomm is in talks with ByteDance to provide custom chip design services. If the negotiations succeed, ByteDance will become an early customer of Qualcomm's custom chip design business. In May this year, the two parties reached a contract manufacturing agreement for large model AI chips, with Qualcomm assisting ByteDance in mass-producing the inference chips it has already designed. The current negotiations regarding video processing chips (VPU) indicate that the cooperation between the two companies is expanding into the field of custom chip design services. The report states that the development of the custom chips will partly utilize technology from AlphaWave Semi, a high-speed connectivity technology company acquired by Qualcomm in December 2025. Qualcomm is the world's largest supplier of smartphone modem chips and is currently seeking to reduce dependence on the mobile phone market while expanding into data center chips, focusing on developing CPUs, inference accelerators, and custom ASIC chips. Although discussions are still ongoing and the outcome remains uncertain, it is not yet clear whether the project will proceed to the chip design and manufacturing stage, and ByteDance may also seek other partners. The targeted video processing chips in the negotiations aim to begin mass production by the end of this year. (Source: BlockBeats)
