ME News: On June 24 (UTC+8), Maryland State Representative Adrian Boafo won the Democratic primary for Maryland’s 5th District on June 23 local time, emerging from 24 candidates to succeed the retiring Congressman Steny Hoyer. The super PAC “United Democracy Project,” associated with the U.S.-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), poured about $5.7 million into Boafo’s camp, and the super PAC “Protect Progress,” which has allied with the cryptocurrency industry, also invested about $5.5 million—bringing the total to $11 million. The primary has been marred by controversy due to heavy external funding, with multiple rivals jointly condemning the aforementioned interest groups for interfering in the primary, and criticizing their alleged intent to “buy seats with money.” (Source: Foresight News)
