Mars Finance reported that on June 23, the Ethereum Foundation announced that it is undergoing a restructuring and plans to lay off about 20% of its employees. This adjustment continues the strategic transition of “Lean Ethereum,” as well as the development direction for 2026, repositioning the Ethereum Foundation as a lighter protocol governance and maintenance steward rather than a primary core builder. The change is further advanced on the basis of the 2025 PR&D (Research and Development) restructuring (cutting staff from more than 110 to fewer than 100), the previous layoffs of about 19 people, and the departures of multiple senior researchers.
