ME AI Message, SoftBank Group founder Masayoshi Son stated that Elon Musk's proposed space data center solution has limited value, and the competition in the artificial intelligence race will be determined by ground computing power. On Tuesday, Son discussed at SoftBank's annual mobile business shareholders' meeting that the core advantage of building space data centers seems to be significantly reducing electricity costs, but electricity expenses account for only a tiny part of the total operational costs of data centers; hardware such as chips is the main expenditure. He added that even if electricity costs are saved, high costs for space transportation of materials, maintenance, and potential communication delays make it not worthwhile. During the meeting, a SoftBank shareholder asked whether this Japanese company would follow Tesla CEO's grand vision. Son responded, "In the next few years, AI competition will be far more critical than the long-term strategic layout ten years from now." SoftBank will focus on building large-scale, powerful ground data centers, as he believes, "The early mover wins." (Source: Tonghuashun)
