When prices were rising every week, I thought success was easy. Almost every position seemed profitable. Confidence grew rapidly, and I started believing my results came entirely from skill.
Then the market changed.
Suddenly every rally failed. Good news had little impact. Fear dominated investor sentiment. Assets that had doubled and tripled during the bull market began losing value month after month.
At first I resisted reality. I kept expecting the market to return to previous highs immediately. Instead, I watched the importance of capital preservation become clearer every day.
The bear market forced me to rethink everything.
I learned to focus on risk before reward. I learned the importance of holding cash reserves. I learned that protecting capital during difficult periods is just as important as growing capital during favorable ones.
Most importantly, I learned that markets move in cycles. Nothing rises forever, and nothing falls forever.
That realization completely changed my approach to investing. Instead of chasing short-term excitement, I began focusing on long-term sustainability and strategic decision-making.
The bear market felt difficult at the time, but looking back, it was the greatest teacher I ever had.
