Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Discloses Technical Consultation Mechanism Following U.S.-Iran Talks

Jin10 Data, June 23—On June 23 local time, Gharibabadi, Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran and head of the Iranian technical negotiation delegation, said that, according to the consensus reached at the Swiss four-party talks, the next U.S.-Iran negotiations will be conducted under the supervision of a high-level committee. The members include the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, Iran’s Foreign Minister, the U.S. Vice President, Pakistan’s Prime Minister, and Qatar’s Prime Minister. It was also decided to establish four working groups responsible for: lifting sanctions, nuclear issues, reconstruction and economic development, and supervision and enforcement.

The parties also decided to set up a liaison point between Iran and the United States to ensure the safe passage of merchant ships through the Strait of Hormuz. At the same time, a Lebanon conflict de-escalation group will be established between Iran, the United States, Pakistan, and Qatar. The heads of the four-country technical delegations will oversee each of the working groups and the two mechanisms mentioned above, and report progress to the high-level committee.

Gharibabadi concluded by saying that, during the technical negotiations, the parties also followed up on the agreed arrangements regarding the issuance of general licenses for the sale of Iranian oil, petrochemical products, derivatives, and related services, as well as the freezing assets of Iran being unfrozen. Based on this, the U.S. has issued relevant licenses for the sale of oil products and others, and has published them on the website of the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control. In addition, all parties agreed to initiate the previously signed arrangement for unfreezing frozen funds, with a total amount of $12 billion (split into two tranches of $6 billion each), and enter immediately into the implementation phase.
