$PNDO Israeli Finance Minister says troops will stay in Lebanon for years, dismissing US calls for withdrawal
According to Israeli Finance Minister Smotrich on June 22, Israeli forces will continue to be stationed in a security zone in Lebanon "for years" and will establish permanent military bases there, even if the US demands their withdrawal.
Smotrich said that no withdrawal will occur unless Hezbollah disarms.
Iran responded that the Lebanon "conflict de-escalation mechanism" represents a key first test for any new agreement.
Tehran stated that it will not fulfill its roadmap commitments until Israel fully withdraws from Lebanese territory.
