Current Situation (as of June 22, 2026)

Group I: France, Senegal, Norway, and Iraq.
France started strongly with a 3-1 win against Senegal (2 goals from Mbappé).
Next match: June 26 against Norway (then Iraq).
Advancing from the group is almost guaranteed; they are expected to progress comfortably to the knockout stages.
Why Are They So Strong?
France’s squad is exceptionally talented and deep:
Attack: Kylian Mbappé (leader), Ousmane Dembélé, Michael Olise, Bradley Barcola, Marcus Thuram, etc.
Midfield: N'Golo Kanté (Fenerbahçe), Aurélien Tchouaméni, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Adrien Rabiot.
Defense: William Saliba, Dayot Upamecano, Jules Koundé, Theo Hernandez, etc.
Goalkeeper: Mike Maignan.
This could be Didier Deschamps’ last tournament. The team combines experience (players remaining from the 2018 champions) with young talent. They were considered one of the top favorites before the tournament (with over 14% chance of winning in some models).
What Can They Achieve?
Top the group: Very high probability (expected to beat Norway and Iraq as well).
Round of 16 / Quarter-finals: Almost certain. They should advance comfortably with this squad.
Semi-finals and Final: A realistic goal. According to many analyses, they are one of the main title contenders (alongside Spain).
Historically, they have reached the final in 4 of the last 7 World Cups. A third final appearance is very possible.
Risks: Hot weather (USA/Mexico/Canada), potential motivation dips, or early injuries. However, the squad quality makes it likely they will overcome these.
In short: France can win the World Cup, and at the very least they are expected to reach the semi-finals or final. Mbappé and the other stars’ performances will be decisive. Follow the matches — it’s going to be exciting! 🏆🇫🇷
