2008: Birth of the Idea*
- *October 31, 2008*: Satoshi Nakamoto publishes the _whitepaper_ "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System" on the cryptography mailing list.
- The core idea: digital money that can be sent directly between people without a bank, using blockchain technology to prevent double-spending.
2009: Genesis Block*
- *January 3, 2009*: Satoshi mines the first block, called the _Genesis Block_. Inside it is a message: _"The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks"_. A critique of the 2008 financial crisis.
- *January 12, 2009*: The first Bitcoin transaction occurs. Satoshi sends 10 BTC to Hal Finney.
2010-2011: Value Starts to Appear*
- *May 22, 2010*: "Bitcoin Pizza Day". Laszlo Hanyecz buys 2 pizzas with 10,000 BTC. Now celebrated as a commemorative day.
- *2011*: BTC price hits $1. First altcoin like Litecoin appears. Mt. Gox becomes the largest exchange at that time.
2013-2017: Price Rollercoaster*
- *2013*: BTC surpasses $1,000 for the first time, then crashes to $200.
- *2017*: ICO boom. BTC price skyrockets from $1,000 to nearly $20,000 in December. Many new people enter crypto.
*2018-2020: Crypto Winter*
Price drops over 80% to around $3,000. But during this period, DeFi emerges, Ethereum develops, and institutions start to look at Bitcoin.
*2020-2021: Institutional Bull Run*
- Companies like MicroStrategy and Tesla buy BTC for cash reserves.
- *2021*: BTC hits $69,000. El Salvador becomes the first country to adopt BTC as legal tender.
*2022-2023: Bear Market & Regulation*
- Luna and FTX collapses cause market crashes.
- Regulations tighten in the US & EU. But the Bitcoin network continues to operate normally.
*2024-2026: ETF & Halving*
- *January 2024*: SEC approves spot Bitcoin ETF. Institutional money flows in massively.
- *April 2024*: 4th halving, miner rewards decrease to 3.125 BTC per block.
- *2025-2026*: Price fluctuates in the range of $50k-$90k. Focus now on institutional adoption, Lightning Network, and MiCA regulation in Europe. #MyGateTradeStory
