U.S. think tank: Iran war has cost the U.S. side $40 billion

Abstract generation in progress
Crypto World News reports that Mark Cancian, a senior adviser at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), said that preliminary analysis CSIS is set to release shows the Iran war has cost the U.S. Department of Defense approximately $40 billion, a figure that includes costs such as ammunition consumption, damage to equipment, and damage to bases, but does not include routine combat expenditures already counted in the Department of Defense’s fiscal year 2026 budget of more than $1 trillion. The data also shows that although the Department of Defense bears the bulk of the spending, the conflict has generated costs of about $1 billion for other agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Veterans Affairs. For consumers, U.S. gasoline prices have risen from a nationwide average of just under $3 per gallon to more than $4 during most of the war. According to Brown University’s energy cost tracking data, if it weren’t for this war, the average U.S. household would have spent more than $253 less. The current rate of price increases has exceeded the pace of average wage growth in the U.S., and in April and May, inflation “ate up” the raises—this is the first time this has happened since 2023.

How many cups of coffee could be bought with the money saved from no war? The more you think about it, the more terrifying it becomes.

Once the CSIS report is out, Congress will start arguing over the budget again.

When oil prices go over $4, it really hurts.
Now looking back, it’s even more frustrating.
