Why does the phrase "poor people with high cognition" always resonate? In fact, many times it's not because they truly possess higher cognition, but because it serves as an almost perfect psychological placebo. It simultaneously satisfies people's desire to explain failure, their fantasies of social mobility, and their longing for their self-worth to be recognized. Once they accept the narrative that "the reason I'm poor is because my cognition is too advanced," they no longer have to confront the complex relationships between ability, action, choice, and outcome.
