ME News Report, April 22 (UTC+8), according to Beating Monitoring, Roo Code co-founder and CEO Matt Rubens announced the shutdown of this VS Code coding proxy plugin, with the team shifting all efforts to the new product Roomote. Roo Code was forked from Cline at the end of 2024, adding a one-click automatic approval mode that allows proxies to skip all permission confirmations, with over 3 million installs in total. The team will release the final plugin version on May 15, archive the GitHub repository, and refund unused balances; users still needing the plugin are directed back to Cline. Rubens wrote that starting from fall 2025, they internally ran Roo Code in cloud containers concurrently, enabling full automatic approval, letting proxies fix bugs, run applications, verify results, and then submit for human review. He summarized this mode as "input prompt, get high-quality PR," believing that the IDE itself becomes secondary, and the working style originally served by Roo Code is disappearing. The new product Roomote primarily uses Slack as the entry point, while also integrating tools like Linear, GitHub, Sentry, Notion, etc., selecting cutting-edge models from different vendors based on tasks, without binding to a single provider. Every change runs a complete application self-test in an isolated container, and UI modifications with screenshots are submitted as PRs. Rubens hopes that non-engineers (PMs, support, operations, marketing, founders) can also obtain mergeable PRs through it. Currently, Roomote is open for registration via waitlist at roomote.dev.
