Last night, all four group stage matches of the second round in Groups A and B of the 2026 USA-Mexico-Canada World Cup were completed, with many key battles determining qualification prospects. Red cards, disasters, and goalkeeper mistakes were played out in turn, making the matches highly exciting.
Group A kicked off first, with Czech Republic and South Africa ending in a 1-1 draw. In the first half, Sadilek scored for the Czech, and in the second half, South Africa equalized with a penalty. Both teams have only 1 point after two matches, making their qualification prospects bleak. Subsequently, Mexico faced South Korea. The match was fiercely contested throughout. In the 50th minute, South Korea’s goalkeeper mishandled a save, and Luis Romo seized the opportunity to score, giving Mexico a 1-0 victory. Mexico has won both matches and accumulated 6 points, becoming the first team to advance to the knockout stage early. South Korea has one win and one loss; in the final match, they must fight hard for points to keep their qualification hopes alive.
Two matches in Group B had vastly different scorelines. Switzerland defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-1. In the second half, Bosnia players received red cards, causing their defense to collapse. Mbenza scored twice, and Zaka converted a penalty to seal the victory. Switzerland earned 4 points and firmly held second place in the group. The host nation, Canada, crushed Qatar 6-0, setting a goal difference record for this tournament. Jonathan David scored a hat-trick, while two Qatar players were sent off, leaving their team with only 9 players on the field, and they also conceded an own goal. This victory marked Canada’s first-ever win in a World Cup match. With a goal difference advantage, they topped the group. Qatar has only 1 point and is essentially eliminated.
After four rounds, the group standings have become polarized, with many teams’ fates hanging in the balance in the final matchday. The subsequent competition will become even more intense.
