The surge in microtransactions has become the main driver of increased network activity in Bitcoin. The share of transfers less than 0.01 BTC has risen to approximately 80% of daily transactions, CryptoQuant reported

Source: CryptoQuant. In comparison, in 2023, the indicator was about 44%.

"The total number of transactions per day and per quarter has approached historical highs. However, the economic value of these operations is disproportionately small," analysts noted.

The use of OP_RETURN code has increased to record levels. Researchers linked this trend to the popularity of Bitcoin-based interchangeable tokens, Ordinals inscriptions, and data recording services

The increase in microtransactions and OP_RETURN has led to the mempool of the first cryptocurrency reaching its highest level since late February 2025 — 128,000. Meanwhile, congestion is concentrated in groups with low fees

"Sustainable growth in non-financial activity on the blockchain could intensify competition for block space and raise fees for economic transactions," CryptoQuant added.

Recall that in April, Ethereum recorded a record divergence between the market price of the asset and the network's fundamental indicators.
