CryptoWorld News reports that Tether has announced it will gradually discontinue its gold-backed derivative stablecoin AUSDT due to reviews of user activity, market demand, and broader business priorities. The company will phase out support for the product, starting with an immediate halt to new positions and the minting of new AUSDT. AUSDT allows users to collateralize Tether Gold (XAUT) by minting through Ethereum smart contracts. Existing users can return AUSDT and redeem XAUT within three months, with a deadline of September 17, 2026. Tether stated that the deprecation of AUSDT does not mean a withdrawal from tokenized gold, and XAUT will remain a core product.
