England vs Croatia – My 2026 World Cup Prediction
Hello football fans. Sharing this for the GateSquare campaign with a clear look at the Group L opener between England and Croatia at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
It is a rematch of the 2018 semi-final that Croatia won in extra time. Eight years later the picture is different. England come in as world number four with real expectations. Under Thomas Tuchel they qualified perfectly, winning all their games without conceding a goal. The core is strong: Harry Kane in excellent club form, Jude Bellingham creating as the number ten, Declan Rice holding midfield, plus wide danger from Bukayo Saka and Anthony Gordon.
Croatia are ranked around eleventh and stay a respected, experienced side. They defend compact, stay disciplined, and threaten from set pieces and counters, usually with Luka Modric pulling the strings. The squad has aged in key spots since 2018, and the overall depth and athleticism gap to England is noticeable.
My call: England 2-1.
Why I see it this way:
• England have better quality across the pitch and should control possession and pressing. Tuchel sides usually start controlled then push. • Croatia will sit deep, absorb, and wait for Modric moments or dead balls. They make it uncomfortable early. • Opening games bring caution, so a tight win is more realistic than a rout. England's attack should find the breakthrough, but Croatia's experience makes a clean sheet tough.
The market reflects this balance, roughly 58% England, 26% draw, 18% Croatia. For the campaign, the sensible approach is backing England to win, with Both Teams To Score or Over 2.5 goals as a value add, rather than chasing a big margin.
Let's see if it plays out.
