a16z opens a new office in Seoul to support crypto and tech expansion in Asia
a16z has opened a new office in Seoul. With South Korea serving as an Asia expansion base, it is primarily focused on the cryptocurrency sector, helping portfolio companies enter Korean and regional markets. Led by Asia-Pacific head Park Sung-mo, South Korea is seen as a strong location for AI, manufacturing, defense, and crypto. In the early stages, it prioritized advancing crypto projects and supporting recruitment, business development, and policy participation. More recently, it also led a $250 million funding round for Exa Labs and made investments related to Canton Network.
