AMD announces a £2 billion investment in AI infrastructure in the UK, partnering with startup Oriole to deploy the world's first pure photonic network AI system

Deep Tide TechFlow News, June 8th, according to Tech Funding News, AMD CEO Lisa Su announced at London Tech Week that the company will invest up to 2 billion GBP in UK AI infrastructure over the next five years, covering national supercomputing infrastructure development and university research collaborations. Meanwhile, AMD partnered with London UCL spin-off startup Oriole Networks, leveraging the UK government’s 50 million GBP ARIA reasoning expansion laboratory project to deploy the world's first large-scale all-photonics network AI system. This system uses Oriole’s PRISM photonic network platform combined with AMD Instinct GPUs and EPYC CPUs, completely removing electronic switches from the network core, reducing core network energy consumption by 81%, and decreasing GPU idle time from 60% to below 1%.
