Farage faces pressure from the Labour Party to publicly explain a £5 million crypto billionaire grant
Deep Tide TechFlow news: On June 08, according to The Guardian, Labour Party chair Anna Telley wrote to Reform Party leader Nigel Farage, urging him to stop evading scrutiny over his receipt of a £5 million personal grant from Thai cryptocurrency billionaire Christopher Haborne and to provide a “clear and truthful account.” The grant was exposed by The Guardian earlier this April. Farage immediately stopped the weekly press conferences he had been holding and is now facing an investigation launched by the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner.
Labour said he had repeatedly changed his story—first claiming the money was used for lifelong security, and then altering his account to say it was a “reward” from Haborne for his efforts to push Brexit—and questioned the source of the funds used to purchase his properties, including a £1.4 million cash home purchase in Surrey and a Kent seaside villa planned to be renovated at roughly £700,000. Farage’s camp insists that the properties mentioned above are unrelated to the grant, and that the funds for the property purchases came from his £1.5 million earnings from taking part in ITV reality shows.
