According to Sing Tao Headlines, the four-year World Cup will kick off this week.
Hong Kong police expect illegal gambling activities may increase during the event.
To this end, they launched the "Gobi and Wind Shield" operation to crack down on peripheral gambling activities.
Regarding the use of virtual assets for betting, Senior Inspector Wong Yu-wai of the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau stated that although many peripheral gambling platforms have added virtual currencies as payment options, they still primarily transfer funds via banks and stored-value payment tools.
Even if virtual assets are used to settle bets, the police have extensive experience and capabilities to investigate and respond.
