Golden Finance reports that on June 8th, the modular L1 blockchain Syscoin released an initial post-incident report.
The attacker exploited a verification vulnerability in the cross-chain relay path to illegally mint approximately 5 billion SYS on the UTXO side.
After the incident, Syscoin's cross-chain operations have been suspended.
The illegally minted funds have been transferred and split, currently mainly concentrated in two addresses.
The team has contacted multiple exchanges and ecosystem partners to request freezing or monitoring funds related to the compromised UTXO.
At the same time, the team has identified the affected verification path and developed a remediation plan, currently prioritizing the repair implementation and the correction of illegal SYS outputs.
The official reminds users not to interact during the cross-chain suspension period and states that they will continue to release updates on the progress.
